Massachusetts Cemeteries Database

Green Burial Massachusetts is conducting a cemetery research project to learn which Massachusetts cemeteries offer green burial, to whom it is available (if a city/town cemetery, does it allow non-residents?) and other information including cost and location. In some cases, we have obtained the cemetery’s rules and regulations. This is a partial list of the 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts.

Volunteers are adding new information to the list every month. We could use your help. Don’t see your city or town on the list? Have a favorite private cemetery that is not listed? Help us expand the number of cemeteries on the list by reaching out to a cemetery commission or private cemetery board and collecting information. Get in touch for instructions or to let us know about a cemetery that allows green burial, as defined below.

Green burial, per the Green Burial Council:

  • foregoes toxic embalming
  • does away with vaults
  • chooses biodegradable containers, caskets, shrouds, and urns
Please note that because information may change over time, it is prudent to contact the cemetery directly for the most up-to-date information on pricing, regulations, personnel, etc.
